The Cayman Parrot Sanctuary is a privately run operation under the founding fathers leadership of Mr. Ron Hargrave. Originally from the Outback in Queensland, Australia. Ron found himself somewhat by accident stumbling on the Cayman Islands in 1999. With a love for Cayman, the feathered friends he grew up with and a means to do good with his Tukka Restaurants firmly established, The Parrot Sanctuary was born! opened on fathers day 2020 during the pandemic lockdown Ron and his family had time to primarily focus on this educational and interactive experience reflecting on the native flora & fauna of the Cayman Islands.
With the introduction of a parrot registration process in 2020 conducted by the DOE it was discussed and accepted between Mr. Hargrave and the CI.Gov that a place of sanctuary was needed for the unfortunate parrots that had been cruelly treated, injured or kidnapped from their nests.
In conjunction with the Cayman Islands Government and the Dept of Environment. All necessary efforts are utilised to protect, mend and release these beautiful Parrots back to the wild when ever they have met with hardships. With the ongoing support from the DOE, general admission revenues, volunteers and local / international gift donations we are able to continue this support to our beloved Cayman Parrots to live happy and healthy lives even in captivity.
At the Sanctuary there is an array of local animals to get up close and personal with, just like these slithering Racer snakes.
Over 100 years ago, these cute Rabbit like animals were brought to Grand Cayman. Called an Agouti they are usually very shy and hardly ever seen in the wild. The sanctuary is a unique visual & interactive experience where you can personally meet Lil Bit or Lil Nugget Agoutis.
The Parrot Sanctuary has 2 Interactive Bird Aviaries where you can have either Bright Sun Conures or Cockatiels eat from your hands, enjoy a selfie or play with your hair.
